My husband has few vices, the only two I can think of being sports and perhaps hoagies. So when March rolls around and college basketball ramps up to a frenzy, I guess I can cut him some slack for staying up until midnight cheering on his favorite team. I even caught him watching basketball coverage on his phone while also watching it on t.v. the other night. When I made a comment, he said something about how I’d do the same thing if it came to The Real Housewives and I knew the jig was up. 🙂
Do you get caught up in the tournament? My college basketball fanhood was sparked in high school when I watched Christian Laettner ‘s amazing buzzer-beating game winning shot to win the East regional final for Duke. When I was teaching, I always filled out brackets and one year I won the entire thing! To this day, we both root for Notre Dame though Duke will always hold a place in my (North Carolina) loving heart. Even our youngest loves to cheer on daddy’s team!
In this day and age, watching your favorite teams play is as easy as opening up your laptop– which means my husband can watch the games while at work (er, only during lunch of course.) It’s been a long week at work for him, so I thought I’d surprise him with a tub full of ‘Snack Madness’ picked up at Walgreens to share with his co-workers. As you can see from my shopping trip, I was able to grab everything I needed in 14 minutes flat– kinda a big deal for this busy mama.
Once home, I arranged it all in a galvanized metal tub. Here’s a tip for ANY party you have: use stickers to write a message on a metal tub. For this party, I wrote ‘SCORE!’ But I’ve also used ‘Boo’ for Halloween, ‘Cheers’ for BBQs on the deck and ‘Happy Birthday’ for birthday parties. Small touches like that can make a big impact.
What’s inside? Snacks both salty and sweet, Coke Zero and Powerade (you know, so they can feel like they are on the court with the players). Plus a canister of Wet Ones, because I’m a mom and I can’t hand out snacks without handwipes. His office-party-in-a-tub wouldn’t be complete without a few items to cheer on his favorite team, so I tucked those in there as well.
Our basketball tournament office party bin is ready to go. Tempting, right?
I can’t wait to see his face when I drop the party supplies off at work this week. What’s your favorite college basketball team to cheer for, and do you have a favorite game time snack?

We are sitting here now watching the brackets being announced. This is the only time of year I watch basketball. My husband and I take off work to watch the first round together. I think your husband is going to love his basket of goodies!
Go Terps! Hopefully they make it this year.
