Winter Fashion Favorites (Over 40)

The big chill is here (crazy amounts of snow predicted this weekend, actually!) and on any given day you’re likely to find me cuddled in my favorite faux fur blanket by the fireplace trying to warm up. However, when I do step outside I want to look a tiny bit presentable, so I have a few winter favorites in heavy rotation these days. What I love about winter fashion are the layers and textures. Various boots, boot socks, open cardigans and ponchos, and scarves galore all add a finishing touch to your basic wardrobe when used in moderation– just don’t wear them all at once, ha! Though some days it’s so cold I’m tempted to do just that. 😉

As if I needed another poncho in my collection (I don’t), I did find a new one to love. This soft white poncho is snuggle worthy and when I can’t be at home under the blanket I can wear one out and about. Love how I can throw it over a sweater and it keeps me warm even in drafty areas! Here’s a close-up of how it drapes. The armholes are large which allows for a lot of movement and a pretty pop of pale pink underneath. It was 20 degrees outside and I was so cold taking these photos that my nose was getting red– my photographer (ahem, husband) wisely took them sans nose!

The outfit underneath is tailored to offset the poncho. It’s helpful to have a pair of non-jeans that feel like jeans, and these grey jean-like pants fit the bill. I paired them with a pale pink sweater, it’s no longer online but here’s a great alternative.

I’ve gotta confess, I love my UGG boots. I was never a fan before this year, but this cute pair changed my mind (they’re on clearance right now, too!) I wear them ALL THE TIME, the soft inside is like toe blankets. They fit over jeans and leggings and seriously make my feet feel loved. 😉
