We are in full-on end of school year overdrive around here… birthdays, graduations, teacher gifts, sports, picnics like WOAH!  This super busy time of year also happens to be my son’s birthday so he tends to get the Pinterest-inspired-birthday-party-shaft. I usually throw a few trains in a bowl and call it a day. But he loves little details like choosing party favors and such, so I wanted a few special touches for his LEGO birthday party. Walking through Target, I picked up a box of Ball canning jars for another purpose when he looked at me and said, “Mama, those look like LEGO heads!”

So, um, I guess they do? Guess what… with a little imagination and some four-year-old ingenuity, they DO!

Some canning jars, bright yellow spray paint, and sharpies later and we had the cutest LEGO party decorations! In hindsight, I wish I’d used plastic jars instead so he could really play with them the way a boy plays with things. They were a cinch to make. I sprayed them in several light coats of bright yellow gloss spray paint. First I placed them the correct way, sprayed, let them dry, then turned them upside down and sprayed again to really get all angles.

After drying, we picked out a few of the simpler faces to draw and got going! We used sharpies, they worked beautifully. My son also asked for faces on the other side since some minifigures have two sides, ha.

I’ll have more LEGO party ideas for those who are interested, but I couldn’t resist popping in for a moment to share these simple LEGO jars!

Okay, back to treading water until mid-June when things slow down a bit. Preschool ends this week, I have a feeling there will be A LOT of minifigures in my future!

If you like this idea, it would mean the world to me if you’d share it using those handy buttons below. :0)
