Frugal Fashionistas, unite!  Today Michelle from Shelly Homemaker shows us how to DIY one of summer’s hottest accessories, peacock earrings.  Grab some feathers and let’s get started!
I am SUPER excited to visit today!  I’m Michelle from over at Shelly Homemaker, my little blogging corner of the world.  I hope you’ll come visit and see what I’m up to over there!

Today I have a Peacock Earring Tutorial for you:

Peacock feathers are all the rage right now, and these earrings are sooo easy to make that there is no reason you can’t have your own pair.

You will need:
  • 2 peacock feathers
  • 2 eye pins
  • 2 small jump rings
  • 2 crimping tubes
  • 2 earring hooks
  • a collection of coordinating beads
  • jewelry pliers, or wire cutters and pliers

To get started, pluck off the feathers that are above the eye, and trim to your desired length.  (I made mine about 2 inches)

Then, if you like, trim off the feather around the eye.  (I prefer the cleaner look, and all those loose ones get stuck in my hair)

If your beads will fit over the quill, you can skip this step, otherwise slice the quill in 1/2 and cut off the back piece. (this just makes it so the beads will slide on)

Begin placing your beads onto the quill.

Next you will need your eye pin and crimping tube

Cut your eye pin so that it is 1/4 – 1/2 inch in length

Place your crimping tube over the quill above the last bead

Shove the small piece of eye pin into the beads with the quill

Use your pliers to pinch the crimping tube shut

Next you’ll need your jump ring and earring hook

Use your pliers (or some super strong fingernails) to get the jump ring open

Make sure that you line the earring hook up correctly with the front of the feather, and insert both pieces into the jump ring.

Pinch it shut with the pliers and ………

THAT’S IT!
(well that’s one, you have to do it all over again if you want one for the other ear)

Here’s one trimmed and untrimmed so you can decide what you like!

Ahhhhh, all trimmed up, neat and pretty, now I can wear them…..

Thanks Carrie for letting me drop by today!  I hope you all love these and give them a shot.  Don’t forget to head over to Shelly Homemaker to see what else I’ve been up to!

Thanks Shelly!  And guess what, she’s giving away a pair of these earrings just in case you want to skip the whole DIY part. 😉  Head on over to Shelly Homemaker for your chance to win a perfect pair of peacock earrings!
