Front Porch Outdoor Decor for Fall {hello, Chili Peppers!}

Fall is in full swing around here, though I have to admit that we bought our pumpkins so early (in a month when the temps were unseasonably high) that they started to get mushy! So I had to toss our pretty pumpkin stacks and go for living specimens to adorn our front entryway instead. My sidekick and I made several trips to the farm to pick out just the right pieces. I’m happy with our colorful and easy to care for entryway, and he’s thrilled because he has little pumpkins to truck around.
First of all, can we just talk about these chili pepper plants? They actually cost LESS than large mums of the same size, and their gorgeous pops of autumn color took my breath away.
I reused our planters from the summer and I love the look. Though I probably should have washed them first. Don’t look at that.
I found this Jack-O’Lantern bushel basket on sale last year, but it would be suuuuuper easy to make yourself. Simply paint a face on a bushel basket from the craft store.
Filling with a large cabbage plant was more cost effective than a mum. I saved about $15 with that little switch-a-roo, and it looks pretty festive.
The shapes of pumpkins and gourds speak for themselves and are way more beautiful than anything I could DIY myself. I’m a sucker for shapely pumpkin stems.
We sit out front sometimes and do homework and play, so these textured pillows make the area cozy while we’re out here, adding texture to the decor.
My son picked out the mini-haystacks and corn stalks. He’s been using them for his ‘train towns’ when I’m not talking photos. 😉
We’re keeping it simple this fall with our front porch decor.
This season is so lovely on it’s own, who needs mushy pumpkin stacks to compete?
(next year we’re waiting until October to buy our pumpkins, no matter how much my little sidekick begs.) 😉
