Here I go… the BIG news!

Well.  I bet you wonder what I’ve been hinting at all these weeks.  I’m not usually so elusive, but for some reason I’m not sure how exactly to announce my news.  If you’ve been reading for awhile (and by “awhile”, I mean since September since this blog is only 5 months old!) you may remember this post when I asked if anyone could guess the news we had after our vacation.  I quickly posted again to assure everyone that we were NOT expecting a baby as many had guessed, but rather we were weaning Noodle from her feeding tube (an NG tube, for those in the know).

Guess what?  Apparently I’m a big, fat liar.  Because four days later something felt funny so I took a pregnancy test and… you guessed it… I was pregnant!

I need to preface this announcement with two things.  First, I struggled for years to get pregnant with Noodle.  The month before we conceived her I was told I had a 4% chance of ever giving birth to our own biological child.  I was diagnosed with a high FSH level (levels unheard of for a 32 year old).  I won’t get into the details, but if anyone is reading this and struggles with either infertility or high FSH don’t hesitate to email me and we can chat off blog.  There were zero to no success stories when I was trying, and I know it would have meant so much to talk to someone who struggled, too.  Needless to say, miraculously we did not see a fertility doctor this time around.  This was, quite honestly, a blessed surprise!

The second thing I need to say is that it took 41 weeks of gestation with Noodle before I felt like I might actually have a baby.  I had a strange intuition during my pregnancy, but everyone chalked it up to me being a first time mom.  As you probably know, the delivery was a nightmare and we almost lost our sweet baby.  So I hope you forgive me for waiting 17 weeks to tell you all my news.  I wanted to be well into the second trimester before shouting it on the mountain, and as I’ve learned through my situation and those of close friends you can never be too sure.  I can tell you I don’t have any weird intuitions this time around, and hopefully that counts for something!  But I’m keeping it low-key, enjoying the ride and trying not to hyperventilate about the “what ifs” as delivery gets closer (a scheduled c-section helps with that).

I apologize for not telling you sooner.  You can see my blogging suffered quite a bit in September and October because I felt so, so sick.  Wow.  I was so sick!  My poor friends would get emails that just said “blech” and “ugh”.  But that seems to finally have passed and now I can handle playing in my bloggy sandbox a little bit more!

Hope Noodle is ready to share the spotlight… and everything else, for that matter!

Thanks for hanging with us on this wild ride.  If anyone has any advice for handling two kiddos under two years old, I’ll take it {and then some}.  Having a child with special needs has it’s challenges, and we are hoping and doing all that we can to try to get Abby’s feeding {and sleeping} on track before having a newborn.  My door is open, the couch is comfy… come sit on it, and dish!  If you have two little ones, please share your secrets!

The “BIG” ultrasound is the week after New Years, and I’ll keep you updated.  We are hoping, first and foremost, for a healthy baby with no stray umbilical cords.  As for a boy or girl, we think it’s win-win.  If it’s a boy, we’d be excited to have the experience of raising one of each.  If it’s a girl, then Noodle would have a sister and I wouldn’t have to buy new clothes!  See what I mean?  Win-win!

Whew!  Now I can finally mention it in posts and such.  Thanks for your understanding about waiting so long to spill the beans.  And really, I mean it… advice is welcomed and needed.  😉
