Free printable- Organize and Declutter Everything

It’s 2015, and we’re off to a great start with our DECLUTTER AND ORGANIZE EVERYTHING CHALLENGE! That really does need to be in all caps you guys, because it is SO BIG. It’s not always going to be easy, but working to make your home clutter-free, organized, and simplified is going to feel so good. SO DARN GOOD. More caps. I truly do speak like that.

You may be wondering why I didn’t just focus on decluttering OR organization. I mean, the challenge name alone is a mouthful (trust me, I silently curse myself every time I write out DECLUTTER AND ORGANIZE EVERYTHING!) But I’ve found that the two must go hand-in-hand. I mean, organizing your clutter is just craziness. Organized crap is still crap. And decluttered areas that aren’t organized are bound to quickly fill back up with clutter. Sounds like a hot mess, right? And we are not hot messes!  <—- okay, I’m totally a hot mess but in a FUN way. I hope.

Here’s the absolute truth, if we’re all going to be successful– I can’t tell you which areas need the most help. I can’t even tell you where to start. I can give you tools to help you get there (just WAIT until you see what’s coming up!) but organizing really isn’t ‘one size fits all’. It’s incredibly personal. So before I start rolling out the fun stuff, do me a favor: take a few minutes to follow this quick plan for prioritizing your organizing needs. You’ll thank me, I promise. Ready? Here we go!

YOUR PERSONAL DECLUTTERING AND ORGANIZING PLAN

Grab a sheet of paper or print out this free printable and take notes on the back. Put it in a spot where you’ll see it each day!

1. Start with your WHY. Why do you want to declutter? How does the clutter make you feel? Do you need more space, more money, or maybe both?

2. Now that you know WHY, let’s move on to HOW. Look at the calendar and find a few large chunks of time for the big projects, and carve out 15-30 minutes a day for the rest. Know that your home may get messy, but we’re gonna fix that. So be sure to plan around it, especially if expecting guests this month.

3. Speaking of big projects, what are 4-5 of the BIGGEST areas of need?

4. Now identify the smaller projects. What other areas of clutter do you notice? Are you having trouble in one spot, such as getting the kids clothes together each day or dealing with bills and paperwork? Write down as many as you can think of. Don’t worry if you can’t think of them all, I have a printable with more ideas coming at you in a few days. 🙂

5. Finally, print out this blank calendar and plug in the dates this month (I’ve kept it blank so you can do this year after year!) Put your BIG projects on days you have the most time (for us, it’s weekends). Write your smaller projects in the order you’d like to tackle them. Try to keep tasks in the same area together– again, it may get messy, so it’s nice to keep it contained to one area before moving on.
