If you’ve spent any time around elementary aged boys lately, you’ve likely heard of Skylanders. In fact, you may hear of nothing else BESIDES Skylanders! As part of my quest for a candy-free Easter basket, I looked for toys my kids would love without any sugar content. BINGO. Skylanders it is, especially with three fun new Easter themed toys to stuff in Easter baskets!
I’ll admit I was in the dark about what exactly Skylanders are, but quickly got an education thanks to questioning a few volunteers. While it’s played on a video game console, the many added toys and ‘traps’ bring it to life. Kids can actually act out and participate in the game play, bringing the toys to life. Or life to the toys. Now that I’m in the know, I can say things like ‘Trap Team’ and ‘Portal Master’ and sound cool. Well, okay, not cool. But… informed?
Using my list of candy free Easter basket ideas, I reused a few metal bins from around the house. I like to use baskets and bins we already have around the house as a way to reduce seasonal clutter. I also steer away from Easter grass thanks to a curious cat that loves to eat it. Instead, I stuffed the baskets with recycled green tissue paper. In other words, the baskets and grass were ‘free’.
We’ve also never pushed ‘girl toys’ and ‘boy toys’. I knew I couldn’t give a Skylanders set to my son and not my daughter, so they each got sets and traps in their Easter baskets along with other goodies I know they love– books, coloring books, character pajamas, art supplies, stickers, travel toys, pencil cases, and glowsticks. For my son:
For my daughter:
GIRL POWER!
The Easter themed Skylanders are adorable, there’s a few that come in eggs and this bunny is going to be a serious hit around here!
A fun tradition in our house is on Easter morning, the kids follow a trail to find their baskets. Sometimes the trail is made with Cheerios, sometimes it’s a trail of stuffed bunnies or books, but this year I know they are going to freak out:
A Skylander trail, HA!
Do you have a Skylander fan in your home? Do they have a favorite character or trap? Educate me!
