Fall was certainly in the air this weekend! It got me thinking about the ways we fall in love all over again this time of year– whether it’s with food, or sweaters, or our favorite pair of boots. This week, I thought it would be fun to cozy up to a different fall related topic each day. I hope you’ll join me in FALLing in love, too!
So, it’s safe to say you are already in love with your family. But these cool, crisp days are the perfect time to reconnect and make more wonderful memories before we hibernate for the long winter. Here’s a few ways we celebrate the season with our family, and I’d love to hear yours as well!
Go on a hayride. Bring a blanket for hay-sensitive little ones to sit on.
There are tons of local fall festivals this time of year. Visit a few new ones and see what fun surprises await.
Pumpkin picking, pumpkin carving, pumpkin painting, pumpkin decorating– so much pumpkin, so little time. If you have little ones, washable paint on a pumpkin is so much easier than attempting to carve one.
Roast pumpkin seeds. Eat them. YUM.
Make homemade Halloween costumes together. They don’t need to be complicated, raid the dress-up bin and play fashion show. Even face painting counts!
Bake up some fall treats or make comfort food favorites together.
Watch It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown while snuggled on the sofa.
Rake up a big pile of leaves. Jump in them. Repeat.
Two words– Cider Donuts. If you don’t live near a place that makes them, attempt this cider donut recipe from Smitten Kitchen.
Have a fall harvest party with friends; sample delish foods and seasonal beverages while the kids decorate pumpkins.
Go on a hike. Collect some pretty leaves and press them, or make a collage with your fun fall finds.
Get your family photos taken for holiday cards before your schedule gets really busy (and before you lose that summer ‘glow!’ {here’s some tips on finding a family photographer}
It’s a great time of year for 5Ks, and many have family friendly 1 mile walks or ‘Fun Runs’. Great way to get some exercise together in the cool fall air!
While cleaning out summer toys and clothes, donate them to a local charity. It’s a great lesson for kids and you’ll make room for Santa.
TAILGATE. Even if it’s in your own driveway, get friends together and cheer for your favorite team.
Hooray, Fall! Welcome back. And thanks for giving me so many ways to continue to fall in love with my family.

That’s a great list of activities! I used to work in a cider mill in Michigan and freshly made cider donuts are to die for!

Clearly I need to find a cider donut so I can find out what the fuss is about 🙂 I love these ideas – I plan to take my kids to a pumpkin patch sometime soon, can’t believe it’s already October.
