When the holiday catalogs started flooding my mailbox in October, I spotted the “I’m Not Bored Anymore Art Jar” from the Land Of Nod. My jaw dropped when I saw it priced at $29.00. What? For a plastic jar of art supplies? Great concept, lousy price.
I thought of a few favorite creative kiddos that would like that art jar. And off to the store I went.
For $15 I picked up enough supplies to make 2 full art jars (with plenty left over for Noodle to use). I bet I could have done even better if I’d gone to the Dollar Store, but Walmart had the supplies I needed so I shopped there.
Here’s what I used. I didn’t include scissors for the simple fact I didn’t want any little fingers to get cut reaching into the jar:
I especially loved the wooden letters except they were out of the letter A and I needed it. NN, apologize to A for me and tell her I’ll mail it as soon as I find one!
I divided up the supplies and stuffed them all in the jar:
My label was pretty plain, but I’m sure all you creative types could come up with a way better one. Also, I didn’t want to totally rip off the name so I made up my own.
There you have it! Hours of portable creative fun for some favorite little sweeties. I didn’t include craft ideas although you certainly could. With these supplies they could make picture frames, doorknob hangers, bracelets, cards, pom pom animals, signs, a book, ornaments, dollhouse furniture… really, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Looks like I need to make a third one…
