More {High Style, Low Budget} Halloween Decorations

They’re going to revoke my Dollar Store credit card, I just know it. Okay, a Dollar Store credit card isn’t a thing but I can’t stop myself from making budget friendly decorations. Which is funny, because I actually don’t like Halloween. But my KIDS do, and my son in particular has been begging me to deck the Halloween halls since August. So here you go, my FINAL (I promise!) installment of fall decor on a dime… stylish Halloween decor for everyone!
First up is my favorite, but I need to note that the ‘before’ owl as a cheap-o trinket from China, not a priceless heirloom. PROMISE. So no hate mail because I ruined something with paint, m’kay? Check out the $1 thrift store owl I found. I gave him a few good coats of glossy black spray paint and red glitter glue eyes (from the Dollar Store) and voila, SPOOKY OWL. My son loves the crap out of it now.
I don’t know why we love him, but we do.
Next was the Spooky cloth from The Dollar Store. My original intent was to turn it into a spider web table runner but there’s been so many great versions of them on blogs this month I skipped the extra work and simply sprayed it with a little fabric starch and laid it on the sideboard.
I went a little crazy with the birds, but these ravens were only $1 (guess where?) so I grabbed a few and placed them all around.
Then I went a bit crazy with glassware. An IKEA bottle, a Dollar Store goblet, and a chalkboard tag from the dollar spot at Target. Put them together and you’ve got some spooky brew.
I scored these brass display boxes at a thrift store last year and inside is a 35 cent ‘brain’. Though I keep finding the brain all around the house. Little squirrels keep stealing it?
More thrift store love (I mentioned this one in my fall decor on a dime post but it bears repeating…) OWLS ARE EVERYWHERE. Scoop ’em up and pull them out in October!
This one is perfect for parties. I found these snack containers at the DS (I’m just going to shorten the name now, I’m saying it so much) and drew on bloodshot eyes. Kinda looks like monsters, or me after my Beaches all-inclusive hangover this week (friends, that series will be a doozy! Stay tuned!). 😉
Aren’t they fun thrown together in a bowl?
My thrift store dome of horror, filled with the Dia de los Muertos skull my dad gave me when I was young.
If you don’t happen to have a terrifying childhood skull, don’t worry– you can find them at Michaels!
Make a tablescape or even some wall decor with Halloween colored plates. Need ways to decorate them? Find 3 ways to decorate plates here!
Last but not least, when in doubt, stick a pumpkin on it. Candleholders are a dime a dozen, and look how they elevate simple white pumpkins! So easy, so classy, SO DARN CHEAP.
Put it all together and what have you got?
There’s still plenty of time before Halloween to hit the DS or your local thrift and score owls LIKE IT’S YOUR JOB. If you find some, post pics on my Facebook page! There you have it… thrifty decor that (hopefully) doesn’t look like it.
Is it Christmas yet? ‘Cause I’ve got some ideas. 😉 Or are you d-o-n-e with thrifty decor ideas? Is it time for me to turn in my DS card and head over to the mall again?
