Have you seen the YouTube video of the stampede at a Target on Black Friday? Neither have I… I read about it, but can’t bring myself to view an episode of such disgusting consumer behavior. You know how much I love a good deal, but the thought of running over another human being in a Target to save $20 on a Blu-Ray player makes me feel ill. Consumerism at it’s worst.
That being said, this is the season for gifting. I’ve put together a few “gift guides” of products and ideas that I think you’ll love in all price ranges– some of which you can make on your own and others a click or two away from being purchased online. No company is paying me for this, I just had a few ideas I thought I’d share if you are stuck on what to get or make this season.
This year more than ever I think people are looking for less consumerism and more heartfelt tokens for gifts. At least that’s my view through my lemon-colored glasses. My gift guides will be heavy on the handmade and only promote things I’ve used or given myself. As always, if you have ideas to share I hope you’ll let me know so I can feature your idea!
Look for these guides over the next few weeks to pop up here and there. Here we go… Ready, Set, GIFT!

I love that you’re promoting giving homemade gifts! We’re trying to teach Sof that it’s more about giving than receiving right now. We have a wooden advent calendar. Behind each door is one Annie’s bunny cracker and a link to a paper chain. The link has a special activity that we do together as a family to celebrate the season. Some of this year’s links also focus on making gifts for others! I can’t wait to see what’s on your list in case we can use it in the calendar!

You’d better believe I watched a good YouTube montage of Black Friday stampedes. It was simultaneously one of the funniest and most horrific things I’ve ever seen. Really, you just have to wonder what is WRONG with the world?!?

Kris, I’ve been searching for a great advent calendar for years! Where did you get yours? I love the idea of your calendar providing “together time” for the family. I was thinking that if we could find one with big enough pockets next year I might tuck craft supplies in them so we can create things together.
I have a neat paper tree project that will be posted on Monday. Maybe that could go on your chain? By the way, when are you going to start blogging? I’d be a loyal follower… well, I already am a loyal follower of yours but in a different way. 😉

Olivemom– doesn’t it make you want to cry? Well, laugh a little and then cry?

We got ours through a Christmas store when we took a fall trip together. If you google wooden advent calendars you’ll come up with lots of beautiful results! PBK has a felt advent calendar shaped like a tree that I think even I could make without too much sewing! It also has larger pockets.
