You know how I save all that money by buying a majority of our children’s clothes at consignment sales?

That’s one way I save up for special purchases, like this one:

When I began this blog, it was to chronicle our journey in finding ways to “live a lovely life, for less.”  That means sometimes we find really good deals, sometimes we splurge, and sometimes we splurge on really good deals.

Hartstrings falls into that last category.

I’ll be honest, I expected to be intimidated by their site because I thought all their clothes were at a premium price point.  Checking back last week I noticed the site is user friendly, carries clothing at various price points, and also has clothes from brands other than their own.  Plus, I was in LOVE with their choices.

I’ve always known Hartstrings has heirloom quality clothes that can be used all season long and then saved or handed down.  What I didn’t know was that I’d fall in love with them, finding some great deals along the way.  Really, how am I to chose?!

In the end, this dress screamed “NOODLE!” to me, and it was on wicked good sale.

Using the code FORTY on Hartstrings.com (good through tonight, 4/9, 11:59 EST) gave me 40% off MSRP and free shipping with no minimum purchase.  Keep in mind it’s off the original price, so you can’t stack that code with one of the many sales they have right now.  But it’s still a great deal!  See, you can get great clothes at affordable prices.

Those flutter sleeves are SO worth it.

Because a dress this cute can be used in so many ways:

  • family photos
  • birthday parties
  • picnics
  • special occassions
  • just hanging out in the summer sunshine…

… Easter egg hunting…

… and jelly bean tasting while sitting in a doll stroller, too.

I didn’t forget Bee.  It’s hard to find matching clothes for the kids but Hartstrings made it easy with it’s Kitestrings brand for boys.  I have my eye on this matching vest and button down:

Taking advantage of the sale, I stocked up on a few things for fall like this long sleeved shirt:

Buying cute spring clothes was easy on their website, and they arrived two days after I purchased them.  Noodle grabbed the dress right away and took off with it, telling me it matches her new green shoes.  I do believe I have a mini-fashionista on my hands.

Spring?  We’re ready. Our forsythia is signaling it’s time to put away the sweaters and pull out the sundresses!

That’s how we’re living a lovely life for less here at Making Lemonade.  Welcome, Spring!

What’s your biggest clothing splurge, and which brands will you pay a bit more for to buy something you love?
