Nothing I purchase is safe from my glue gun, fabric, spray paint, and possibly ribbon. I have very specific tastes (okay, I’m picky) so I have a difficult time buying things off the shelf without “revamping” them in some way.
Curtains are no exception. They are never safe from my busy hands. Take our bathroom window curtains. Here’s what our shower curtain in our newly renovated hallway bathroom looks like. I’ve been looking everywhere for simple curtains to match it:
Wandering through Joann Fabrics one day I spotted some “butterfly ruffles”. Ding! Add these ruffles to a white valance that used to live in our office (now a nursery) and you’ve got matching curtains. Since the valance was free and I had a bottle of Fabri-Tak, all I had to buy was the trim for $4.
Here’s the valance in all it’s un-ironed glory:
Next, I glued the ribbon in double layers using Fabri-Tak. No sewing required! This entire project took only 10 minutes to create.
All that was left to do was to hang it up:
Now I have super easy, super cheap matching curtains! I’m not usually a matchy-matchy type of person, but this combination makes the space light and airy.
I realize it’s girly. I realize I have a boy on the way, and he will share this bathroom. But for $4, I can change it if and when he notices. Until then, I love our frilly bathroom! I realize I never posted the full reveal of our renovation, and that’s because we are still missing the moulding around the edge of the floor. I know I should just shoot photos around that minor issue… but until then, this one is a “headshot” so you can’t see our unfinished moulding. The floor tile and vanity tone down the girly-ness quite a bit because they are shades of gray and black.
Full reveal coming… okay, I’ll say soon but by “soon” I could mean July after the little man gets here. Priorities, you know? {I have to say, the floor tile is one of my favorite things in the whole house. Wonder if I can get a floor shot without revealing the missing moulding???}
