Thankful Thursdays: Join our Gratitude Party!

It came to my attention in October that our society is treating Thanksgiving as the evil stepsister of Christmas and Halloween. {note: I’m not saying stepsisters are evil. Just the ones in fairy tales, apparently}. Many people decorate for Halloween, then put the Christmas decorations up before the sugar high even wears off from the trick-or-treating loot. Yes, I’m talking to YOU, Macys!

Not that there’s anything wrong with putting up a few early Christmas decorations, but Thanksgiving should mean more to us than just pigging out on food and resting up before hitting Black Friday sales {again, not knocking Black Friday but rather wishing it started, say, SATURDAY}. No matter your lot in life, there are things for which to be thankful. This year, I do feel a trend toward less materialism and more gratitude. I’m sure a lot of that has to do with the current economy, and doing more with what we already have teaches us so many things.

I’m hoping to hear from the readers of Making Lemonade (all five of you) and hear what you are grateful for this year. It can be funny, or silly, or deep– whatever you choose to share, I know I’ll enjoy learning more about you. It can be a post you wrote a year ago, or something from today, or even last summer.  I plan on keeping the linky open at least through the weekend, so add your link when you have a free moment.  It can be a “Just for the Joy of It” or “Wordless Wednesday”, just as long as it goes with our theme I’d love to read it!

I pledge to read all the comments and visit all your links (I always do, anyways) so rest assured you are being heard. This is really a time to stop in and say “hi”, so if you’re reading this on Google reader could you stop over for a second and visit? The coffee is fresh and we have a chair waiting for you!

So please join us!  Just enter your name (or your blog’s name) and the link to your Thanksgiving or gratitude post.  If you don’t have a blog, we still love you; comment below and let us know what makes you thankful this season. I’ll be adding my own, too– it might just be a day or two before I get it posted. In a year like the one we’ve had, there’s just so much to be thankful for! Like gracious and supportive readers such as yourselves.
