Got cats? Then you’ll appreciate how hard it can be to keep a welcoming home environment when living with a litterbox. It was hard enough keeping the box smelling fresh in our four bedroom house, but now that we’re in a tiny apartment with no basement or second floor to hide it we found it even more of a challenge! Add in my husband’s allergies and the fact we’re in such an enclosed space and we had a housekeeping nightmare on our hands. But this guy, Charlie, is SO worth it– and we knew we needed a solution to keep our apartment smelling fresh and provide for his needs at the same time.
Can you believe this sweet kitty is a rescue? And he lived in 5 HOMES before ours?! The families that gave him up said he had ‘litterbox’ issues. Turns out he just needed access to a clean litter box. Huh. Imagine that.
The only place to put our litter box is in the laundry room, which is directly next to eating area/ living room of our apartment and across the hall from our son’s room. Since the door needs to be open to allow Charlie 24/7 access to his litterbox, it was a recipe for an unpleasant home experience to say the least. After all, no one wants to experience ‘Stank Face’ when coming home after a long day or eating dinner, do they?
Ben’s best ‘Stank Face’:
The first step was choosing the right litter, and we found Tidy Cats® Lightweight Clumping Litter 24/7 Performance for Multiple Cats at Walmart was THE one to solve this problem. It comes in 8.5lb resealable, recyclable plastic jug for multiple cats. Even though we only have one cat, we appreciate that the container is resealable and easy to pour. The size and weight is easy enough to haul up 3 flights of stairs while still having plenty to last awhile so I don’t have to do that every week. 🙂
Here’s the secret: it has TidyLock™ to lock away odors so no one ever has to make Stank Face again. In fact, Tidy Cats® has a huge array of products just for this purpose. I mean, why sacrifice a fresh home for your cats when you can enjoy both? You can buy Tidy Cats® online or grab it at your local Walmart.
A few other tips for keeping a fresh home with cats:
1. This is obvious, but we make sure to scoop often and vacuum the area frequently.
2. A litter mat helps stop litter from tracking everywhere.
3. Using heavy duty litter bags and an elastic to hold them in place has been super helpful.
4. Charlie gets a little vigorous in his litterbox and sometimes rips the liners. I sprinkle some Tidy Cats® Clumping Littler on the bottom of this litterbox before putting on the liner in case it rips and spills– that way, everything gets absorbed.
This kid loves his cat, so he was a natural when it came to demonstrating Stank Face and Tidy Face!

I’m going to have to try this liter. We haven’t had to worry about the smell for years because our cat would mainly stay outside. Since our move he refuses to go outside. The liter we have is not containing the smell and I scoop daily!!

That’s wild about your cat not going outside anymore! It’s been hard being in an apartment because I used to wash the litter box frequently with a hose but now we don’t have one until we moving into a house again. Hopefully this litter will work as well for you as it does for us!

Nestle who makes this product is stealing water from Ontario canada residents. The CEO declared “water is not a human right and should be privatized”. They won a permit to drain an aquifer and the towns people have no water. They are a shameful company. Refuse to buy any Nestle products. P.S. Your cat is gorgeous

What a cutie with the Tidy Face!!! I had the same ordeal with my last cat! We had to put her litter box in the laundry room off the kitchen when I moved. I had some good litter too and I also scooped frequently. All was good, and I had one happy cat!

Thanks, he loved showing off his Tidy Face, ha! Sounds like you know the litter box/ laundry room dilemma firsthand too. Glad you found a solution. Happy Cat = Happy House!
