I’m linking up to Southern Hospitality’s Thrifty Treasures party in the hope I can get some advice. I stopped by my favorite thrift shop to see if they had any baskets for baby’s room (I’m looking for a specific shape that I can cover in fabric for some cheap-o storage) and came across this:
It doesn’t look like much ’til you look on the bottom and see this:
Woah, someone paid $70 for it??? It’s pretty big, and when I spotted it I knew I wanted to give it the Layla treatment and put it on my super-huge-and-really-hard-to-decorate brick mantel. But then I saw that price tag, and I’m wondering if I should leave it alone (or re-sell it on eBay)? Or is that silly, should I let it go and spray-paint it white to “pop” against my outdated brick mantel?
In case you don’t read The Lettered Cottage (what???), here’s what Layla did to her thrift store finds:
Advice, please! Do I resell it/keep it as is because it’s “worth” $70 new (I know I can’t get $70 for it, but am I ruining it’s value)? Or is it worth more to us as a white vase sitting on our ugly mantel?
I almost passed by this frame until I realized it matches the style of a frame already in my home. It’s in brand new condition and is made from blocks of wood:
Here it is side-by-side with the one I already own, given to me by my Aunt. She glued a few shells from our favorite beach on this one, so I think I’m going to do the same to the “new” one. Can you guess where they will go? In the baby’s “Light Nautical” themed room, of course! But with another small touch I’ll reveal later.
I also spotted a few cute things for Noodle, priced at about $2 each. They look new. I’m SUPER picky about buying thrift store clothes, but these were great!
I also found some brand-new blankets for our charity, and since I’m going to wash them in Dreft before bringing them to the NICU it’s perfectly fine they came from the thrift shop (especially since I know they are new and have the tags still on them!)
Okay, advice about the vase… PLEASE!

i’d paint the vase, the size is great.
House Queen says
Paint it or leave it that color but my advice is add vinyl to it to personalize it! Great find!!!
Grannys Attic says
Try and sell it, if it don’t sell for at least $45 then paint it and I like the idea from House Queen add vinyl. Never hurts to make a little extra money so you can find more bargin treasures. Blessings, Vicky

I’d paint it and use it. But that’s just because I know if I put it in the eBay pile, it would sit there for months, I’d forget about it, and I’d never get the satisfaction of seeing the pretty white vase on my mantle that I got on the cheap.
Natalie Jane says
You probably won’t get more that 25% of that, so I say paint it and know you have some expensive bling in the house.
Wendy says
I also vote for paint it! You liked it, use it!
We live in a Zoo! says
I say keep the vase and paint it, It’ll be beautiful, and how likely is it that you will find another like it? ;D

Great finds! I like it the way it is, but if it doesn’t go, paint! Dropping by from Rhoda’s.
Angie @ The Country Chic Cottage says
Paint it!! Great find!

Thanks for all your input! I think I’m going to paint it so it will stand out against my brick wall. Hopefully it will turn out as good as Layla’s did!
