Hey Everybody! Did you have a good weekend? Hopefully you were able to enjoy it with your family and soak up some sunshine as well. I’m popping in from my self-imposed 2-week hiatus to say hello and give a few quick updates {you knew I couldn’t stay away for too long, right?} 😉
:: First, many thanks to the guests who’ve posted in my absence; we have a few more stopping by this week as well. It’s neat to see the diversity in posts and inject this blog with some new ideas. Thanks to those who commented and showed some love!
:: Second, my Google Friend Connect widget in the sidebar seems to have disappeared. I know this has happened to several bloggers lately, but I REALLY miss seeing all your smiling faces. Anyone know how to fix it? And more importantly, are you getting my posts in your reader? You can still subscribe manually or by following the links in the “sticky post” under the header and tabs. I’ll work on it, but I think it’s a GFC issue and not one I can fix. Drat, I don’t like dealing with these things! And I really don’t like not seeing those happy faces every time I look over there.
:: Happy dance, my little trellis project was featured on Centsational Girl’s Best of the Blogosphere this weekend. CG is one of my favorite blogs ever, so that was quite awesome.
:: Did you notice the giveaway going on right now? Comment on my Things Fall Apart post and you could win a copy of Tiny Sunbirds, Far Away by Christie Watson. Great summer reading, I might add. Some background on the story: it follows a Nigerian girl dealing with the break-up of her parents and subsequent move to a rural location. It touches upon issues facing Nigeria today, coming of age, and finding your voice. What I appreciated was that this story gave much insight into the setting of Nigeria without completely devastating me the way other books in this genre tend to do (cough, cough– Little Bee
). While the subject matter is intense, the way it’s told is very readable and won’t have you cringing as you turn each page.
:: My sponsors are what keeps this little blog hobby of mine afloat, please visit them in the sidebar when you get a chance. Due to family circumstances I just didn’t get it together to write my Sponsor Love post this month, so look forward to an early one for June. Just in time for FATHER’S DAY!
:: Last but not least, I’m planning on a week of vacation related posts in June. If you have a great post you’d like to write (or one from your blog to share) drop me an email at makinglemonadeblog at gmail dot com. It can be anything from practical tips to favorite places. I’d love to feature you.
Have a great week, and I can’t wait to catch you up on Bee’s birthday party and a few other surprises!
