Perhaps it’s because of the colds we’ll inevitably catch, the need to warm up, or the shorter days– but for many of us, fall means turning towards comfort food. Or maybe it’s because comfort food is SO stinkin’ good. Of course, comforting food may differ according to where you live, how you were raised, or what ethnicity you are– for example, when I’m down in the dumps I head straight to the oven and roast a Greek Chicken (as we’ve dubbed it). My husband is all about meat, and my daughter? The Jelly Sandwich.
I’m so excited to hear which foods bring you comfort. Below is a round-up of recipes that I want to get off my Recipe Pinboard and into my belly. These should do the trick if you need additional temptation ideas for your comfort food recipe files. It’s my tribute to FALLing in love… with comfort food.
There were no less than 6 tomato soup recipes I’ve pinned, which means it might be a runner-up for the Greek Chicken. This “Every Little Thing’s Gonna Be Alright” Tomato Soup from Spoon With Me should warm some hearts this fall.
Mozzerella Grilled Cheese with Pesto. This recipe is from An Edible Symphony, and if you have some perfect pesto hanging around from the summer it would be a perfect complement to this sandwich.
Speaking of soup, here’s 20 Slow Cooker Soup Recipes from I Should Be Mopping the Floor. NO SOUP FOR YOU! Okay, 20 soups for you.
While it may not be traditional comfort food, my husband and I fell in love over fried pickles. Paula Deen does ’em right in her Fried Dill Pickle recipe.
Speaking of the hubs, he’s a big fan of RIBS. This Easy Slowcooker Ribs Recipe from Mmm… is for Mommy looks perfect.
It’s not fall without pumpkins, and this Penne with Creamy Pumpkin Sauce from Martha Stewart would certainly qualify as comfort in a bowl.
I’m not a huge ‘cheese’ fan, but this Cheesy Corn Casserole from Saveur.com is something I could get behind. Doesn’t it look delicious?
Autumn mornings mean Popovers, the delicious and light tasting morning ‘musts’ we got hooked on in Maine. Here’s a popover recipe from me, via the Jordan Pond House in Acadia.
If you choose “sweet” over “savory” for comfort, I bet this Salted Caramel Shortbread from Sweet Tooth will hit the spot.
Is there a broken heart that can’t be healed with Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies? This chocolate chip cookie recipe from Apple A Day sounds amazing.
Got a warm spot for warm drinks? Try this Hot Caramel Apple Cider recipe on a chilly autumn morning.
Pumpkin Drop Doughnuts from Lara Ferroni. So wrong, yet so right. Okay, not at all wrong. All is good in moderation, right?
Are your bellies rumbling yet? Don’t they all look so delicious? There’s so much more where that came from on Pinterest, but it’s a teaser of the cool yet comforting days– and treats– to come.

Gosh, they all look divine! I love making things from scratch, but one of my favorite easy comfort foods is Matzo Ball Soup (the box mix). It’s so salty and simple and delicious!
