The “Take Me Away” DIY Rosemary Citrus Body Polish Recipe

Ever have one of those ‘please take me away’ days? I have. All the time. I’ve found a few ways to (safely) escape, and using homemade products and health supporting scrubs is one of them! While staying at The Lodge at Woodloch last month, I was treated to an incredible body polish with a rosemary awakening scrub. Even in the middle of the treatment I was thinking I HAVE GOT TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE THIS. (I know I should relax, really. But it was THAT good). A few weeks later, I made a similar sea salt scrub using lemon and rosemary oils– both of which are great detoxifiers and amazing for lifting moods and supporting circulation. Before I had a chance to try it, the weirdest thing happened. I was feeling under the weather, worse than I have in years. To soothe myself, I took a bath and used the scrub. Almost instantly I started to feel better. I’m not saying this scrub is a cure by any means, but I am saying I will always have the ingredients on hand from this day forward!
When I looked up uses for Rosemary oil, I found that in addition to the above uses it also supports digestion, immunity and respiration. Plus enhances mental clarity. DING DING DING! No wonder it was so helpful. Plus the smell is A-MAH-ZING!
The base I used was this fine grained Celtic sea salt. You could also use sugar, but sea salt has health benefits so it’s an added boost. You can use any carrier oil, I used grapeseed oil because I had it on hand but almond oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, etc. all work too!
Ingredients:
4 drops lemon essential oil
1 drop rosemary essential oil
1/4 cup carrier oil (I used grapeseed)
1/4 cup fine grained sea salt
Directions:
Mix together. Apply to skin and gently massage. Rinse off completely with warm water.
SAFETY TIP: Lemon oil is photosensitive, so use caution in the sun for 24 hours after using it. I haven’t found a problem if it’s in a scrub, but you would never want to apply lemon oil directly to your skin and then go out in the sun.
Also, please only use therapeutic grade oils if you’re making this scrub, some companies add chemical fillers to their oils so they aren’t pure. I only use Young Living oils because of their super high standards, you can find out more here if you’re not already a member. You only want the best of the best touching your skin because it will be absorbed!
For an added touch, pack into cute mini-mason jars for gifting. Do you want a tutorial on the jars? They were super easy but pack a big punch to your jars if you’re giving them as gifts.
The next time you need a ‘take me away’ day, try this scrub. Or really try it anytime, it’s THAT good. As with all homemade products, I try to use it within a week since there are not preservatives. Which is a good thing, but does mean you should use them quickly.
The scent… ahhhhhhh!!!! ENJOY!
