The holidays are coming, can you feel the excitement?! One of the things I try to do right before Thanksgiving is get my home ‘holiday ready’ before the influx of guests and trees and food and… well, you catch my drift. My husband knows that his job is to take the kids out for a few hours the weekend before Thanksgiving so I can get the house holiday ready and spiffed up. Thankfully Homeright sent me their Steam Machine Plus Steam Mop to tackle some of the tasks on my list, and I spent the weekend checking off my cleaning to-dos.
First off, you know how much I love natural and chemical free cleaning. I’m almost totally 100% natural at this point, and a part of that is using the SteamMachine (check out 8 AMAZING uses for a steam cleaner!) As much as I like that version, I was looking for an upright steam mop for my kitchen and bathroom floors and this one does NOT disappoint. But it does so much more than floors, too. AND WAIT– check out the hidden surprise on the upright mop:
YES! The handheld unit DETACHES! Two machines in one.
I used the handheld to steam clean my disgusting couch cushions. The kids have a habit of drinking (and spilling) beverages on the couch and it shows. I finally took some time to use the handheld unit to gently steam clean those stains right out. YUCK, there’s at least 4 stains here:
So. Much. Better, only one stain was (slightly) visible afterwards:
The handheld unit can be used to sanitize countertops, faucets, and even squeegee windows. It has several attachments for various jobs. But my favorite is how it cleans and sanitizes my floors WITHOUT CHEMICALS. I mean, check out what the pitter patter of little feet has left on my hardwoods:
This machine should only be used on floors that have been sealed and not waxed. After testing a small portion to make sure it didn’t damage the floor (and vacuuming to get up crumbs), I proceeded to push the mop all around my floors. Behold, my floors are now ready to SHINE for my guests!
Want to clean a section of carpet? There’s a app for that! Er, an attachment for that. This handy frame goes on the mop head to help it glide across the carpet.
It was so easy to use, I can easily pull it out to clean up after little messes. Who, meeeeee?
Here’s a handy checklist of other tasks to complete before guests and Christmas trees arrive:
- wash blankets, throws, sheets, pillowcases
- wash small throw rugs and throw pillow covers
- put out toiletries for guests
- freshen towels in the dryer if needed
- clean out fridge and freezer; add new box of baking soda to absorb odors
- wash carpets
- clear out unused toys/books/decor items
- disinfect countertops, sinks, faucets (the handheld does this)
- clean pillows
- toss expired items in pantry; stock up on snacks and food staples
This may be controversial, but I personally love getting helpful items for Christmas (a new trash bin may or may not be on my wish list)(okay it is). If you’re like me and enjoy gifts that make life easier, hint around that you’d love to get a SteamMachine Plus Steam Mop under the tree this year. AND GUESS WHAT? Amazon has a $20 off coupon you can clip through December 14th!! When you visit the product page on Amazon, be sure to look under the price and you’ll see a button to clip the coupon and get an extra $20 off. Woot!
A HUGE thank you to my husband who endured not only a movie but then a long play session at the park yesterday so I could clean, scrub, organize, and declutter. The house already feels a thousand times lighter and READY for guests and holiday decor. Alright, I’m off to finish cleaning this couch and carpet before my friends arrive. Those cushions spend more time on the floor than on the couch with my daredevil son making forts and jumping on them, poor guys.
How do YOU get holiday ready?
