No Turning Back Now! (Kitchen Demolition Day)

When we woke up on Friday morning, our kitchen looked similar to this photo from a few years ago (minus the clutter, which had been removed the night before):

After returning home from a day out while the contractors worked, our kitchen looked like this:

There were four layers of floor to pull up.

Check out this lovely water damage.

The previous homeowner didn’t do the job properly the first time (shocker!) so there was no wet bed and they used the strangest hodgepodge mix of wood under the tile.  On an unrelated note, that sliver of white in the middle of this photo is the light from our basement.  There are cracks like that all over this floor, I’ll be happy when it’s covered back up!

On Monday the contractors were back, so in addition to no floors or stove we now have no counters, dishwashers or sink.

Or husband, he’s out of town for this week.  Sigh.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to get all “woe is me” on you.  How can I, when I’m dreaming of a kitchen that will {kinda sorta} look like this in a week or two?

Yeah, so, okay.  My kitchen won’t look too much like those stunners.  We are on a budget, after all.  But it will look better than the ‘before’ photo, that’s for sure!

Alrighty, I’m off to bed.  It’s not easy keeping two little ones busy and out of a danger trap kitchen demolition area!  Plus, there’s that whole ‘keeping them fed’ thing, minus a kitchen.  Don’t worry, I’m working on it.  Let’s just say they are getting really savvy at eating out and Noodle thinks she’s won the french fry lottery.

Okay, gurus.  Any tips on how to survive a kitchen renovation?  And also, how to cook using only a microwave and no sink? 😉
