We’ve been dreaming about a screened porch for so long that it’s hard to believe it’s actually happening! But whether you have a patio, deck or porch there’s so much you can do to transform it into a resort style paradise with a few well-placed pieces and some string lights. (Remember when we used this simple trick for hanging string lights on our deck in our Pennsylvania house? We plan to do it again on our new deck this time around too!)
In anticipation of our new porch, we’ve been scouting out the best resort style finds out there and we’ve found quite a few lovely items to transform our backyard. We always start with the furniture and anchor it with an outdoor rug, then add on the accessories: a market umbrella, planters, throw pillows, outdoor fans, lanterns, and curtains are a few tricks we use to bring the indoors outside.
Here’s a sneak peek of the porch, keeping in mind that it’s STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION… there’s a cardboard protector on the decking, partially pulled back so you can see the flooring color:
As you can see, it’s almoooost ready to decorate– we need to get the lighting and three season windows installed and tidy up a few things first though. I am SO looking forward to sharing the design board… soon, I promise! There’s several amazing items that we either used for our last makeover or wanted to use with this one but they didn’t fit, hence this post. HOT TIP: because it’s considered ‘end of the season’ and retailers are making room for fall (EEEK!), many of these items are on sale or going quick!
1. Striped Umbrella (don’t forget a stand!)
I’m feeling more relaxed already gazing at these goodies. Summer has just started, it’s not too late to embrace it! Anyone else dreaming of snoozing in that hammock?

Your enclosed room is stunning. Did you have to get a permit for it? Also did you have a contractor install it? I dream of having one, but I think where I am in Southern CA, it would be around $40,000. Wasn’t sure if there’s a way out of such a cost. Anyway, yours is amazing.

Thank you!! Yes, we did get a permit. The cost was pretty high, even here in North Carolina, because of the composite material and size. Plus, we had to do a lot to work around the unique roofline, plus the EZBreeze windows. To cut costs, we could have made it smaller, used regular lumber, and skipped the EZEBreeze. That being said, we use this room more than our living room so it was a great investment and I think it will translate to higher home price if/when we decide to sell. Hope that helps!
