Warm Up Your Winter (Hygge Style!)

Are you as obsessed with the Danish concept of hygge as I am? When daylight gets shorter and weather colder, I move into hibernation mode– and look for anything that makes me feel warmer physically and emotionally. Which is basically what the word hygge (pronounced hue-guh, not hoo-gah) means… without a literal translation in English, hygge means embracing the coziness and charm of everyday moments. It’s the feeling you get when the lights on your Christmas tree tickle your heart, or the satisfaction when you sink into a snuggly blanket and delve into a much-anticipated book, with a warm mug of your favorite beverage in hand.
Even when our heat went out (thankfully it was just the thermostat tripping, literally tripping, not just like– hey thermostat, you are trippppppinnnn!), I hygge-d it up, and felt happy.
This weather has been particularly chilly (even here in North Carolina!) so I’ve been embracing hygge every chance I get. Flameless candles adorn my tables, and throw blankets are errrrywhere. My slippers never leave my feet from the moment I come through the front door until it’s time for bed. And while winter has never been my favorite, sometimes just have have to embrace it like an old friend.
With that in mind, here’s a few cozy favorites to warm you up, hygge style, this winter.
