Sometimes, all you really need to feel like your home (and life!) is under control is to get into a good routine. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and like you have too much to do and not enough time to do it. However, once you split things up into manageable bites, you will discover how much more you are able to accomplish.

First, get into a routine of doing the following six things every day. Once you master this, you can then add a deeper cleaning task to your day.

This system keeps your home clean because it doesn’t allow dirt to pile up. It targets the “must-do” tasks like dishes and laundry – all while keeping your home looking neat. Don’t fret if you skip a day – there is a margin for that already built in.

One more tip: to really make it easier to get all six of these things done, I suggest pairing them with another habit you already have. For example, load the washing machine while your coffee brews in the morning. This will make it feel more natural and you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can get tasks done.

Easy Daily Cleaning Schedule

Here are the six things you need to do – call it an easy daily cleaning schedule. If you do them in this order, you’ll have a clean house every day.

1. Make the Bed

One of the first chores of the day should be to make your bed. It sets the tone for the rest of the day. While you are in there, you can tidy up the nightstand too or fold and put away extra blankets.

2. Load and Unload the Dishwasher

Next, it is time to go to the kitchen and unload the dishwasher. I prefer to leave the kitchen sink empty each night, so I typically don’t need to wash the dishes in the morning. However, I find doing dishes to be quite therapeutic! I focus on the feel of the warm water and make sure to add in some aromatherapy with a nice soap.

3. Do One Load of Laundry

Next, wash, dry, fold, and put away one load of laundry each day. Yes, do the entire cycle. It will make you feel amazing and prevent the clothes from piling up.

4. Wipe Down Kitchen Counters

As you wipe down the counters, spray and wash out the sink and dust the appliances, washing away any smudges that you see along the way.

5. Spot Clean the Floors

The best tool for this step is an all-purpose vacuum that can clean both carpet and hardwood. You shouldn’t have to mop anything unless you see a really dirty or sticky spot. Save the baseboards and mopping for your weekly cleaning schedule.

6. Tidy Up the House at the End of the Day

At the end of the day, go around and tidy everything up. Go into the bathroom, dining room, and living room and just pick up anything that is out of place. This shouldn’t take long at all, maybe 30 minutes.

Start small with these cleaning tasks and build on your success. Once you get into this habit, you can add “clean the shower” or “scrub the toilet” to your list on a weekly basis.
