‘Tis the season when our favorite stores put out the newest outdoor rugs, and each year the selection gets better and better. Not only do outdoor rugs make your patio and porch feel like a living room, but they can be used indoors too. These durable rugs are easy to clean, ideal for homes with kids and pets, and add a punch of color and style to any space.

Why Would You Use Outdoor Rugs Indoors?

Outdoor rugs have been my secret tool for easy-to-clean rugs under high-traffic spaces such as our entryway and mudroom. They’re also perfect under the kitchen table or in the kitchen because if you make a mess they can handle heavy cleaning.

Heck, you can even wash most outdoor rugs with a hose for really heavy duty cleaning!

Plus, they’re made to withstand all kinds of weather so a few kids and a pet is easy-breezy for outdoor rugs to handle. Just make sure to check the material in the rug to make sure you’re cleaning it properly.

Another outdoor rug bonus? The prices are usually lower than fancier indoor rugs. Win-win!

Using Outdoor Rugs On a Porch

That being said, outdoor rugs really shine when used on porches, patios, and decks. I prefer to use them in covered spaces because despite the tough material, sometimes they become water logged during rainy seasons.

Of course, they are MADE to be outdoors so you can definitely use them as such; but know that if you get a lot of rain they may need maintenance such as laying out to dry or more frequent washing if mildew builds up.

  1. Love indoor/outdoor rugs for porches! Do you have any recommendations for places that will do custom sizing? Our breezeway is an odd dimension so rugs that are wide enough are always too long. We have considered round rugs but don’t love them for this particular space due to the furniture placement. Thoughts? Thanks for all the great info (and links)!

  2. where did you get the rug that is in the picture under your wicker porch furniture?
