Whether it’s been part of your dinner repertoire for generations or it’s a new-to-you dish, it’s one that brings forward feelings of comfort. I still remember my Grammie’s special recipe that we ate with every Thanksgiving meal. It’s also the only ‘vegetable’ my son will currently eat (and only in mashed form, he doesn’t like roasted, baked, or smashed potatoes.)
When my daughter gets her braces tweaked every few months and deals with soreness for a few days, mashed potatoes it is.
And when I’m rushing to get dinner ready, I’ll admit to pulling out the premade Bob Evans version.
However, a few extra minutes are SO worth it for this recipe.
These creamy, buttery, garlic parmesan mashed potatoes that will knock your socks off. Garlic and Parmesan are two of the best flavors out there, so combining them always makes for a delicious dish.
This recipe is rich and decadent, but surprisingly easy to make. Definitely a Thanksgiving side dish we can all enjoy!
Garlic Parmesan Mashed Potato Ingredients
This recipe calls for the classic mashed potato ingredients with a few ‘extras’ that really add delicious flavor to this dish:
- russet potatoes
- minced garlic
- cream cheese
- butter
- sour cream
- heavy cream
- parmesan cheese
- herbs and spices: parsley, basil, oregano, salt and pepper

Garlic Parmesan Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients
- 3 pounds russet potatoes peeled and cut into chunks
- 4 cloves garlic minced
- 4 ounces cream cheese softened
- 1/2 cup butter softened
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 tsp parsley
- 1 tsp oregano
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for 15 to 20 minutes, until the potatoes are fork tender.
- Transfer the cooked potatoes to a colander and rinse with cold water. Allow to cool to room temperature.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9×13 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- Combine the potatoes, garlic, cream cheese, sour cream, and heavy cream in a large bowl. Use a potato masher or hand mixer to mash and blend the ingredients.
- Fold in the parmesan cheese, basil, parsley, oregano, salt and pepper.
- Spread the mixture in the baking dish and bake for 30 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
