There is something classic about the combination of cinnamon and sugar. I love it on toast, churros, and these pastry twists! In fact, I doubt there is a better combination than flaky puff pastry that melts in your mouth, spicy cinnamon, and sweet sugar.

Easy Pastry Twists

There are just five simple ingredients in these simple pastry twists. And once you buy the puff pastry sheet, you probably already have the other ingredients in your pantry or refrigerator.

I like to save recipes like this one for those nights when I’m really craving something sweet but don’t want to go through all the effort of mixing up a bunch of ingredients for cookies.

These pastry twists remind me of lazy churros. Instead of frying some pie crust, just bake some puff pastry crust. It’s easier, healthier, and just as delicious.

How to Make Puff Pastry Twists

This is such a simple recipe that you can teach it to your kids, and it might just become their go-to treat recipe (my daughter has a few recipes she’s perfected, such as pancakes, and this one is next on her list!)

To make these puff pastry twists, just thaw the puff pastry dough. Then, dust your table with some flour and roll out the pastry dough into a rectangle.

Mix the egg and water in one bowl and your cinnamon and sugar in another bowl.

Next, cut the dough in half lengthwise. Then, brush the egg wash on both halves of the dough and sprinkle one half with the cinnamon sugar. Match the two halves together, egg wash side down. Use a rolling pin to seal them together.

Then, cut them into half-inch wide strips. A pizza cutter makes this easy.

Now, this is the fun part! Twist each strip and pinch the ends to keep them together.

Place each strip on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and bake them until they are golden brown. You will begin to smell them when they are about ready to come out of the oven.

Serving Ideas

My favorite way to eat these puff pastry twists is to just grab a few of them to snack on when I’m craving something sweet.

They also make the perfect party food. Drizzle them with some Nutella or dip them into caramel sauce. For a healthier option, add some fresh fruit on the side.

These cinnamon-sugar treats also taste divine with a bowl of salted caramel or vanilla bean ice cream. Or chop them up and place them on top of your ice cream – yum!

How to Store Puff Pastry Twists

These pastry twists taste the best when they are fresh out of the oven. The flaky pastry falls apart and melts in your mouth – there is nothing like it!

You can store them in an airtight food storage container or a resealable bag. They will do best if you store them at room temperature. Reheat and eat them within three days for the best experience.

Can you Freeze Pastry Twists?

Yes, you can freeze these pastry twists. They will stay fresh in the freezer for up to six months.

Here’s how to freeze your pastry twists:

  • First, bake the pastry twists and then let them cool completely.
  • When they are room temperature, place them on a baking sheet that you lined with parchment paper.
  • Put the baking sheet in the freezer, keeping it level. Freeze the twists for about 2-3 hours.
  • When they are completely frozen, place them in a freezer-safe resealable food storage bag and put them back in the freezer.

There you go! The entire recipe is in the printable recipe card. You won’t believe how much fun these are to make – it’s almost as fun as they are to eat!
