Now that SWEATER WEATHER is here, it’s time to cozy up our homes by layering in fall decor. I’ve done most of my fall decorating already, but it takes awhile to get it all photographed! Despite not having photographed my full fall home tour, today I’m sharing a few of our favorite fall decor pieces because I don’t want you to miss out on the decor pieces that are in stock (seasonal decor tends to sell out quickly!)
What is a fall decor capsule?
I’m a huge fan of using ‘base’ pieces you can use from season to season, and creating ‘decor capsules’ for the rest– for example, having a go-to throw blanket, throw pillows, faux stems, and artwork to switch out as the seasons change. This saves so much time, space and energy when decorating for the seasons, and makes organizing your seasonal decor a cinch.
What’s in a fall decor capsule?
My favorite pieces to switch out for seasonal decorating are:
- throw pillow covers
- throw blankets
- artwork in frames
- faux stems
- books
- plants and planters
- ceramic pieces
- serving pieces
- doormats
For example, here I switched in this pillow and Bliss throw blanket (similar) to add in touches of the fall color palette that I’m using this year– soft ‘mineral’ inspired shades.
In our entryway the vases now have faux leaves, and I placed a gold pheasant and pheasant feathers on the table. Previously this table had olive branches and a large seashell during the summer months.
Another outdoor fall decorating trick is to switch out your doormat. I fell in love with this Hey Boo doormat from Etsy (Mine is sold out, so here’s a similar option from Amazon). If you look closely you’ll see the You’ve Been Boozed bottle from last week’s post!
I love to play with styling and can’t decide between these two vignettes in my kitchen. Also, I’m obsessed with small paintings in gold frames (which are super on trend right now) and got this one years ago at a thrift store for only $5.
We keep a weekly meal plan on a chalkboard in our kitchen, so I moved a few of those pieces around it and now it’s fall-ish. Or fall-ified? Fall-ed? 😉
Do you change our dinners according the seasons too? Instead of grilling every night we’re putting our crockpot and Instant Pot into a heavier rotation with soups, stews, and chilis. What are your favorite fall meals?
