Greek Key Console Table {15 Minute Decorating, Day 7}

I fully believe in browsing high-end style magazines and stores so you train your eye to see high-end style– and snap it up when you find it for a super low price. There’s a whole post in the works on this but I wanted to share a recent example. Open a décor mag these days and you’re almost sure to find something with a Greek Key pattern inside. Can I afford anything in those magazines? NO WAY. But it’s trained my eye to find diamonds in the rough such as this little beauty I snagged at Restore a few weeks ago:
Huh. It was priced at $35 but there was a sale for 25% off of that. A little cheaper than these sister console tables, each priced over $900.

Yup, I got their cheaper sister (or as I like to say, the cooler hip sister that knows where to score the good deals). I swooped in and scooped up this brassy console table, which is not technically greek key but close enough for me. Then I CARRIED IT THROUGH THE RESTORE WHILE I CONTINUED TO BROWSE, PEOPLE. I didn’t want this guy to get away, and wanted to make sure nothing else was calling my name.
Darn voices. I may have also found a $5 oil painting with gorgeous gold frame. WHY CAN’T I RESIST THE SIREN SONG?
My wallet was a teeny bit lighter, but I had my console table in hand. Perhaps I also named her Aphrodite. But I won’t tell.
{“I shall name her Aphrodite!” I yelled, lugging it across the parking lot}.
The only thing standing between me and a $1,000 looking table was the finish. It had the same brassy, black dotted finish as my faux bamboo Hollywood Regency mirror. What’s up with Jackson Pollacking gold with black paint, y’all?
I pried out the small suction cups that hold the glass in place so they didn’t get covered in paint, and cleaned the console table with a rag and windex.
And then… you guessed it. This gal {Aphrodite!} got a few light coats of Rustoleum’s gold spraypaint. They kindly sent me some to review, and trust me, I’ve used almost all of it in various projects. Painting the console table took about 15 minutes total on a sunny day with mild temps.
Along with a few other #15minutedecorating projects on that tarp. Shhhhhhh. 😉
Behold.
Isn’t she gorgeous?
I’m not keeping her in this hallway because of The Wrecking Crew (my children), but instead she’s going to live somewhere a bit safer. I’ll share how to style a console table vignette in a future post, but until then, let’s bask in her simplicity.
Shop high end. Buy low price. BOOYAH.
I know not everyone can find a Greek Key console table at their local thrift store. But I’m hoping this’ll inspire you to take 15 minutes to spray paint something a favorite color, or find high end style at your local Restore. Plus, this hallway is getting a makeover soon that you can totally replicate on a budget and in under 15 (okay, maaaaybe 20) minutes. So there’s that.
Anyone else have a love of gold and/or greek key? Have you heard the siren song of the thrift store? And do you have a high/low score to share?
