How’s everyone doing on the Lifechanging Magic decluttering & tidying challenge? I’m happy to say I can finally check clothing off the list. Clothing was the easiest to let go of but seemed to take the most time to go through because there was SO MUCH of it between the four of us. But we did it! Now that everything has been decluttered, it’s time to organize our dresser drawers. Doing it right the first time will save you SO much time. We’re focusing on how to fold and organize socks today. Does your sock drawer resemble the photo above? Have no fear… KonMari to the rescue!

One organizing tip we learned from the KonMari Method was how to fold and organize socks THE RIGHT WAY and it’s blowing our minds. Before, our drawers were somewhat functional but a little out of control. Here’s a re-enactment of my husband’s sock drawer:
It didn’t really look like that all the time, but was getting close. The rollover method of folding socks left them stretched out and cumbersome. My husband did a thorough decluttering of socks and got rid of all the ‘quitters’ (where the elastic was gone), single socks, and outdated or worn ones. Then he did a little online sock ordering and founds some new, comfy pairs of socks he loves to replace the 10+ year old ones. Behold the discards! (that pink one is mine, FYI.)

Next, it was all about folding. The old method was to fold one sock over the other, but this ends up stretching them out and creates unnecessary tension in your sock drawer. Imagine when you close that drawer that the socks are getting all snippy with one another, complaining about being ‘stretched to the limit’ and ‘you never bring me flowers anymore’.
Now, try folding them this way.
BOOM. Peace! Candlelit dinners! Surprise trips! Random love notes ‘just because!’
(Play along with me here. I’m trying to make sock drawers exciting.)
You can go from this (the horror!):
To this:
(cue the angels singing!) But truly, it is SO much easier to find everything in the morning and also to fold and store them. Even my husband is keeping it in order. True to the book, once you put these systems in place you don’t need to do it again… it takes almost zero time to keep them up. NO MORE decluttering. NO MORE organizing. Just… done!
Socks, CHECK! Tomorrow, the rest of your drawers. Ahem. 😉
