Still on vacation, although we are headed home soon. Yesterday was so much fun; my aunt (the only non-sick person in Massachusetts, apparently) came by and we took Noodle for lunch and shopping in the adorable town of Concord. My hometown is smack dab in between Lexington and Concord, known for their role in the Revolutionary War and birthplace of many literary figures (Paul Revere, “don’t shoot until you see the whites of their eyes”, Walden Pond, Louisa May Alcott, etc., etc.). As you can imagine, the word “quaint” was probably born after someone set eyes on these little towns.
Here are a few snippets from yesterday’s trip:
:: Driving up the main road in Bedford, we passed a Veteran’s Day event. Strolling down the street was a Minuteman. If you live here that’s no big deal, but if it’s been 15 years since you’ve been to a local parade it’s quite funny to see. Full Revolutionary regalia, complete with tricorner hat and musket. Ahhhh, home.
:: Driving HOME from Concord, a pheasant ran out in front of my car. At first I thought it was a turkey, and I swear my first thought (aside from trying not to hit it or the car in the other lane) was, “WOW, talk about a FREE TURKEY!” Then we realized it was a large pheasant, and the poor thing had a heart attack but did make it back to the curb before meeting an untimely end on the front of our Honda Pilot.
:: Three words: Concord Cheese Shop. I’m not a cheese hound, but my hubby is. I wanted to get him a treat, and the fact that they have hundreds of amazing cheeses and will slice off samples of whatever you want was probably lost on me. But thanks to their amazing suggestions, I walked away with a small selection of cheeses for him to try. I wish there was something like this near us… service at it’s best!
It was a good week, but hopefully we’ll be home soon (sans illnesses). I’m just waiting for something to pop up, but I guess I won’t know for at least a week if we caught the Mass Bug that’s been making the rounds up here. I’m also hoping to post traveling tips for any holiday road trips you may be taking in the near future, so keep your eyes open for that!
