My jaw hit the floor when I first saw in ingredients in the #1 selling home air freshening spray. And not just the ingredients ON the label, it’s also about what’s NOT listed– did you know companies can hide nasty chemicals behind the word ‘fragrance’? It’s true, they don’t have to disclose what’s in their proprietary ‘fragrance’; it’s often a cocktail of chemicals (the average amount of junk hiding behind the ‘fragrance’ label is actually 14 different chemicals), 80% of which haven’t even been tested for safe use on humans. Terrifying!

Which Essential Oils are Good Air Fresheners

We use it in areas of the home that get the most, um, ‘fragrant’, such as our trash cans, bathrooms, and laundry room where we have a litter box. What Ingredients are in Natural Air Freshener

This spray uses just 3 ingredients, which you might already have on hand:

10 oz distilled water
1 Tbsp. witch hazel
20-3o drops Purification essential oil

You’ll also need a small glass spray bottle (note: make sure the bottle is glass, because some citrus oils can eat away at plastic).

How to Make DIY Air Freshener

Here’s the ‘recipe’, just add ingredients to the bottle, shake vigorously, and spray!

TIP: Be sure to shake before each use so that the oil gets dispersed evenly among the liquid (the witch hazel will help). We have several of these bottles tucked into various rooms in our home so we can grab and spray as needed.
