Cleaning Tip #1: Clean Top to Bottom
We learned this lesson from the nurses in the NICU after our daughter was born: when cleaning, always go from the cleanest area to the dirtiest. Otherwise, you’re spreading dirt into clean areas. Turns out, that life advice applies to your house too. When possible, start in the cleanest section (the top of the room) and move downward to the dirtiest (the floors.) The spring cleaning calendar does just that– starts with the upper tasks like ceiling fans and windows and then moves downward to the dirtiest towards the end of the month.
Cleaning Tip #2: Work in Zones
Some items you should clean all together (ie, if you’re working on windows go ahead and knock out that task for ALL windows in one day.) But some spaces you’ll want to clean in zones, such as the bathrooms and kitchens. Those spaces don’t mix well, eeek! So we’ve arranged the calendar so that you’ll work through the kitchen tasks in one week, and bathroom tasks in another time slot.
Cleaning Tip #3: Have a Fully Stocked Cleaning Bucket
All the speed queens and efficiency experts can appreciate this tip: put everything you need in a bucket to cart from room to room. That way, you don’t need to take breaks to grab cleaning products, they’re all in one spot. When done for the day, stash it away, and when you’re ready to clean pull it out again.
Cleaning Tip #4: Natural is Best
A recent study found that cleaning products caused as much damage to your lungs as a 20-cigarette-a-day smoking habit. Seriously. There’s literally no reason to do that to yourself. Below are a few of our favorite toxin-free cleaning recipes you can make using supplies you probably already have in your home. Or use the already made concentrated Thieves Cleaner. The Young Living Premium Starter kit now comes with Thieves Cleaner samples and several oils you can use to make your own DIY cleaners too!
