The bees are buzzing, the birds are singing, the sun is shining (for a minute…) and that can only mean one thing, SPRING! Along with the nicer weather comes the realization that snow will no longer hide the grass, and damage from winter weather needs to be fixed. With that in mind, I whipped up a handy and FREE printable spring outdoor maintenance checklist to help you fix up the landscaping and get ready for summer. From the lawn to decks and patios to outdoor furniture, it’s time to dust it off and get ready for summer outdoor living!

If you have sticks that need to be picked up I’ll send my crew over in a jiffy. I actually printed out the list and bribed them with cake to help me. 😉 She’s happy here, really. Just dreaming of cake.

Tips and Tricks to Simplify Your Outdoor Maintenance

  • To clean your gutters, use a gutter scoop, small trowel, or even an old plastic spatula to remove leaves, twigs, and buildup. We like this gutter cleaning tool. Spray a garden hose in the gutters to clear out smaller particles and check for blockages in the downspouts. Don’t forget your gloves because those gutter edges can be sharp!
  • If your screens have small holes, use a self-adhesive screen patch. Clear nail polish can even be used for the smallest holes. If you need to replace a screen, be sure to pick up a spline tool to make your life easier.
  • You can mix up 1/2 cup vinegar and 2 cups of warm water for a non-toxic window cleaning solution. Use a squeegee from top to bottom for a streak free shine.
  • To clean your grill, remove the grates and soak them in warm, soapy water. Scrub with a grill brush to remove built-up grease and food residue. If you have a gas grill, check for clogged burner holes and clear them with a toothpick or wire. Scrape out the grease trap, wipe down the exterior and season the grates and it will be ready for those spring and summer backyard cookouts.
  • Work smarter, not harder: Instead of endlessly raking and bagging, consider investing in a leaf blower/vacuum combo. This saves your back and cuts down on the number of bags needed for disposal.
