Is there anything worse than a braggy skinny know-it-all? Kinda like, I don’t know, Bethenny Frankel of Real Housewives fame, who just three weeks after having a baby donned a red bathing suit and bragged about already losing 30 of her 35 baby-weight pounds. I’m all for being healthy, and certainly eating in moderation, but getting into a bathing suit and stepping on a scale on national t.v. just puts the attention in the wrong place. I promise I’m not jealous, and I do understand she was at a healthy weight to begin with, but that’s not what I’m a little edgy about.
Her daughter was born 5 week early– FIVE WEEKS! That’s not anything to sneeze at– premature infants can suffer many complications. I wish she would have shone the spotlight on her new daughter and how lucky she is that she was able to come home without taking a trip to the NICU… but, no, “I can fit into a bathing suit!”
I know some of you are thinking, “but Bethenny is right, it’s important to stay healthy.” Admittedly, I gained 5 more pounds than I should have during my recent pregnancy. But I didn’t pound Big Macs or cheesecake either. Yet, my scale says I only lost 17 pounds in the hospital and not 30 like Ms. Red Bathing Suit. Yes, people lose weight at different rates and obviously hers was a fast one, but why flaunt it when you have a newborn at home that quite frankly is lucky to have no health problems?
It just makes me sad that this is the standard we hold women to, and also that the attention is superficial and not on what really matters at the end of a pregnancy– namely, THE BABY. So here’s where I throw Bethenny and her suit and her scale in the river and focus on losing my baby weight in a healthy way. I plan on sharing my journey with you, so expect a few posts on that. I’d love to have some company along the way, so let me know if you are on a healthy kick as well.
Anyone else in the post-baby weight loss boat? I promise I won’t hate on you if you comment that you lost all your baby weight in one day… in fact, I’ll cheer for you!… just promise you won’t show up on my doorstep in a red bathing suit. 😉
