Making Lemonade in the Philadelphia Inquirer!

Today’s the day I went to Wawa and found this:
Our very own interview in the Haven column of our little hometown paper, The Philadelphia Inquirer! It’s in the early edition of the Sunday paper, which is already on newsstands in the area. And our babysitter, who was there to wrangle the kids during the interview, made the front page! This is SO my life, acknowledging it truly take a village to raise my kids. 🙂
I’ll admit I was nervous opening up the pages. In hindsight, getting our home somewhat camera ready just two days after arriving home from vacation was an unattainable goal. There was quite a bit of closet shoving and perhaps some garage stuffing; even with all that, this was clearly a home well lived in and much loved. With toys. Oh, the toys! And as much as I want to cringe realizing how un-photoshoot ready our home really was, I’m also at peace with the fact that our home is cozy and fits the needs of a family with two young kids just perfectly. Our nest.
A sometimes chaotic, often messy nest– but one of comfort and happiness that reflects how we live during this sometimes chaotic, often messy season of our life.
Not only that, but it cemented how much I want to help others feel happy in their sometimes chaotic, often messy homes too. Because perfection is so overrated. Especially when you have a 3 and 4 year old. Or perhaps perfection shifts from magazine worthy or living-in worthy. Sometimes gray microfiber couches are perfection, when you can scrub marker off of them. And smudges on the art cart, because it means my kids love to paint.
Yes, I just admitted that microfiber and smudges can be perfection.
If you found Making Lemonade because of the article, you may be wondering about our little miracle baby– saved by perhaps something more than just our amazing doctors and nurses (and I’m not talking about the head cooling treatment, which runs a close second). You may have also heard of Team Abby— we’re the ones dropping off Care Bags to other long-term NICU families in the Philadelphia area to wrap our arms around the families of our tiniest heroes. Because it wasn’t so long ago that we were in their shoes…

Have a beautiful Sunday, everyone! Now go embrace what makes your home perfect for your family, in this season. Today, I’m celebrating that my home can be in a newpaper and I didn’t even cringe. 😉
