FRIENDS. Can we chat for a minute? Because I’m not sure this is real life. I’ve been obsessed with the HGTV Dream Home since the very first one that debuted in 1997. Not only did I enter as many times as they allowed, the Dream Home helped me define my style and also gave birth to several ‘dreams’ of my own, including bucket list travel destinations and the seed planted to one day own a second home to enjoy with family and friends.
Where is the 2020 HGTV Dream Home Located?
Last week, that obsession came full circle when I got to tour the 2020 HGTV Dream Home in person and meet the designer. Plus, it’s in a location I’ve loved with my whole heart since first cracking open a Pat Conroy novel- the Carolina lowcountry. The home is located on the island of Hilton Head, a place I’d yet to visit but had heard is an incredible destination.
EVERYONE WAS RIGHT. Hilton Head Island was everything I dreamed, and more. The island itself has managed to avoid over commercialization, with trees everywhere– live oaks combined with palm trees make the most magical mix. Businesses and retail stores were plenty BUT they were tucked away behind trees to preserve the look of the island. It’s a place where people live year round so they have tons of conveniences (such as a Whole Foods, Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, outlet mall, etc) but they’re all hidden from view or arranged in a thoughtful way.
Despite it being January, it felt like spring so we took a few breezy walks on the beach and found beach glass, shells and driftwood. Truly heavenly. As was the dream home. And YOU CAN WIN IT.

What’s the Design Style of the 2020 HGTV Dream Home?
The designer, Brian Patrick Flynn, explained how the design process worked with this home and you would be BLOWN AWAY to hear how much thought went into each and every square inch. Basically, they have to balance the design to appeal to everyone, from those who are retired to families with young kids, men and women, dog people and cat people, those who love bold colors and those who adore neutrals.
They also worked to avoid cliches. Yes, we were at the beach but there was nary a ‘BEACH IS HERE’ sign in sight (you know how much I agree with this philosophy!) Plus, they can’t make it too trendy or it will go out of style quickly– instead, they’re ahead of the trends and kept it timeless and long lasting. It’ll look as relevant in 10 years as it does now, that’s for sure.
Y’ALL. Brian and the design team NAILED IT. Despite the eclectic styles of all the bloggers visiting, we were in awe of how much we all loved it. Even if a room wasn’t your personal taste, you could appreciate it and see how it all fits within the overall design.

The home was so much more beautiful in person (if that’s possible), which tall ceilings, tons of light, and gorgeous views out of every. single. window.
Every detail was thought through to perfection. Natural elements were woven throughout the home, which is my personal ‘must’ for a warm and welcoming home.
Here’s a few of my favorite details, which had the perfect balance of neutral vs. bold colors, natural organic elements, and timeless classic style… (get your pinning fingers ready, there’s tons of great ideas to
steal borrow for your own home!)
Many of the ceilings were painted ‘Haint Blue’, in keeping with southern tradition:
Calming colors were woven throughout the home, making it feel super relaxing.
Trends such as ceramic tile were incorporated in a beautiful and impactful way.
The wall decor was outstanding, from handpainted art to vintage inspired pieces.
The bedrooms were unique, perfect for everyone finding a style they loved!
From calm and relaxing…
to bold and chic…
the ‘take me to the islands’ tropical, I’d love to rest my head in any of of these bedrooms.
This home not only wants you to relax, it invites you to play. I loved the foosball table in the second story stairway area:
and the pool and patio area? I’m speechless.
One of my favorite spaces was the dining area. It took my breath away. If you know me, this is 100% my style!
Not only we were able to peek into every nook of the home, but we were able to enjoy it as guests– and so many of us know each other it was like a lively blogger mastermind with wonderful friends! (can you guess who’s the ‘hot mess’ friend in the photo below? Spoiler alert: IT’S ME. I’m so happy to fill that role for y’all.)
I’ll be back soon with a post detailing where to get everything in the home (including the exact paint colors), so if you see something you love tell me in the comments so I can hunt it down for you!
So who’s ready to win this Dream Home? Click here to enter twice a day, and best of luck! Oh how I hope one of you wins this gorgeous home!!!
