If I had known making homemade applesauce was this easy, I would have been making it ALL THE TIME. So, okay, it takes a few minutes to peel and chop the apples but other than that the slowcooker does all the work, quietly and competently. Plus the house smells amazing, and after a few hours you have delicious chunky applesauce that everyone will love. And LOOK, only TWO INGREDIENTS are needed unless you want to add a teeny bit of extra spice or sweetness.
All natural, all delicious.
Homemade Slowcooker Applesauce Recipe
5 pounds of apples
2 TB lemon juice
sugar and cinnamon to taste
1. Peel your apples.
2. Core and cut into slices (I use my handy OXO apple corer— love that thing)…
and then dice into chunky pieces.
3. Add apples to the insert of your slowcooker with the lemon juice and sprinkle with cinnamon if desired. Give it a good stir.
4. Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6-8 until apples are soft. If you’d like the applesauce a bit sweeter, add in sugar to taste. Mash the tender apples with a fork and let cool before eating the entire thing (just kidding) or storing in the fridge. If you like a thin applesauce, you could run it through the blender but the texture of the applesauce ended up being just perfect for us.
This homemade applesauce recipe is great as a snack, a side dish to pork, or even over ice cream as a topping.
But really, also for bragging rights. You can make your OWN applesauce now, you know. 😉
It’s like fall jumped into the slowcooker and had a party. Go ahead and try it and let me know what you think!
