Mold and mildew stinks – in more ways than one! It isn’t just an eyesore – it can be dangerous to breathe in. Thankfully, you don’t have to use overpowering chemicals to clean up mold or mildew. Did you know you can use vinegar and essential oils?

This jar of spray isn’t just powerful, it smells good too. You might even want to make a diluted version to use all over the house as an all-purpose cleaner; simply add distilled water.

How To Get Rid Of Mildew Naturally

Mold is dangerous to inhale, so if you have it in your house, it’s important to get rid of it. If you’re working around mold, always use protective gear and a heavy-duty mask or call in the experts. This article is not to replace sound advice for working around mold, it’s simply offering an option as a first line of defense against household mildew.

My homemade cleaner is great for effectively cleaning areas such as bathrooms and showers where you might find mildew. The secret is the essential oil Tea Tree Oil. In addition to the vinegar, it has natural anti-fungal properties which help get rid of mildew and stop it from coming back.

If you have mildew, cover the area with this spray. Let it set for about 30 minutes. Then, wipe away the mildew with a disposable rag. It might take a few applications, but you’ll get it. It’s important to keep working to get rid of the buildup by removing each layer until it’s gone.

Mildew is also a fungus, and it grows in damp areas. Did you know that vinegar has natural anti-fungal properties? When you use vinegar with Tea Tree Oil, you are creating a super-powerful fungus fighter!

Sometimes I water down my all-purpose cleaners. Since this is supposed to kill fungal spores, I wanted to use just straight vinegar and essential oils. It’s a very strong-smelling spray, which tells you it is working.

I suggest using a glass spray bottle because the essential oils are really powerful. If you use them in plastic spray bottles, you run the risk of extracting impurities.

Don’t forget to label your spray bottle! Keep it separate from your other cleaners and out of the reach of kids and pets so it doesn’t accidentally get into the wrong hands… or paws.
